A ball can change the world

Sep 17

I love charity and I love good causes. One of these good causes is the Homeless World Cup. And since this site is concerned mainly about football shirts, I’ve found this great charity homeless world cup 2009 tee shirt (pictured above). The shirt was born out of a collaboration between Soccer Pro and Calle, the freestyle football brand. Although the design isn’t overly impressive, the message is clear and Calle put their style into a very nice charity gesture. All the revenues will be donated to the Homeless World Cup and you have until Sept. 30 to buy one.

And continuing with charitable acts, why not apply to win $1000? It comes in the form of a soccer scholarship awarded by Soccer Pro. If you’re involved in football and you’re a full time college student, you can apply and potentially win this awesome scholarship.

My new Adidas adiPURE shoes review

Sep 01

You can imagine my childlike happiness this morning when I picked up my new package from my friends at Soccer Pro. I was walking home humming the tunes of Paolo Nutini, singing “heeeyy I put some new shoes onnn and suddenly everything’s alriiiite,” without the scottish accent of course. And this time, I ordered a fresh pair of Adidas adiPURE II TRX. I saw Kaka wear these boots, and I read a lot of reviews about them before deciding to get them. In soccer shoes, I usually go for the classic look, going more for comfort than to show off. And these looked likely to fit the bill for me. I was always a massive fan of the Adidas Copa Mondial and the Kaiser5, they were the best Adidas Soccer Shoes in my opinion and I’m actually quite pissed off that Adidas took off the Kaisers from production a long time ago. But c’est la vie. It’s time to decide if the adiPURE are close to being the same quality of shoe.

Let’s look at the scorecard from my first experience with the Adidas AdiPURE shoes. I’ll judge them on three criteria, which I feel are the most important to everyone when looking for a new shoe.

Look/Design:
I really think that the design is more appealing than something like the Mercurial vapours, but that’s just because I like the classic look more. They’re fresh leather, they smell like leather, and they shine like leather on top of it. The AdiPure logo is not intrusive and it’s more coming out of the leather than being printed on - which is fantastic. I love the look, classic black and white. I give it a 9. The only shoes that look cooler are the Pantofola D’oro shoes, but they cost a tad bit more.

Feel/Comfort
It was a bit weird to put them on at first because I’m so used to the thinner Nike shoes, or the thinner old Adidas shoes. However, I have to say that I’m falling in love with the extra comfort and padding that these shoes offer. They’re just really really comfortable. The heel is protected by metal and your foot is held nicely in a padded interior. Playing for 2 hours, I didn’t feel like it was a relief to take them off as usual, I wanted to walk home in them. I give it a 9 for comfort as well.

Touch/Feeling of the ball
Like I said already, it was a bit weird to touch the ball since they are a bit more thick than other shoes. However, the leather really sticks to the ball and it’s easy to move around and feel the ball with these shoes. I have to break them in to really feel the ball, but it wasn’t so bad. It was weirder when I put on a pair of vapors than with these adiPURE boots. I give it an 8 for touch and feeling of the ball.

Great shoe all-in-all, and I recommend it to everyone. Thanks again to soccerpro for taking care of my order and my feet!
